grey space

As of lately I've been working on moving past my black-or-white thinking pattern tendencies to embrace the gray. Gray space thinking isn't about "all or nothing," or "black or white"; it's a valuable middle ground space to think. Personally a black-or-white mindset can make me feel trapped at times, especially when I make a statement claiming to never do something again or something along the lines of that and then I ultimately end up doing it again (oops). I'm currently trying to find comfort in this gray space, because as humans, we're often so quick to make bold statements like "never again". In life, I'm realizing that you can find the most ease and freedom in gray thinking.

To lean into this idea, I'm taking things one step at a time and focusing on changing my language and mindset. A couple months ago I claimed that I would never cut my hair short or dye it dark again… you’ll never guess what I ended up doing a couple weeks ago (lol). As JB himself once said “never say never”. These small shifts have been helping me retrain my brain to move away from impulsive, all-or-nothing behaviors during moments of anxiety. There’s something comforting about the word "gray" in itself; it makes me think of clouds, rain, and coziness, which feels safe.

Instead of seeing things as “good or bad”, “right or wrong”, you start to see more of an in between. This mindset helps you avoid the rigidness of extreme statements. As humans, we’re constantly evolving and changing our minds. So cut yourself some slack cause we’re all doing this for the first time !!!
